Eight years ago, the risk of a teenager between the ages of 13 and 19 becoming pregnant was 1 out of 3, according to the non-profit National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. Today that number has dropped to less than 1 out of 4.
Bill Albert, chief programme officer for the National Campaign, says teen pregnancy and birth rates have been declining in the US “almost without interruptions” for nearly 20 years, after peaking in the early 1990s. And the best news of all is that the rates are down among all racial and ethnic groups in all 50 states.
