A Kenyan court ruled Thursday that it is legal to use anal examinations to determine a person’s sexual orientation. The case involved two men arrested on suspicion of having sex in a bar in February 2015.
The two men were forced to have anal examinations to determine their sexual orientation. They were also required to take HIV and Hepatitis B tests.
Critics of the decision say the examinations are “degrading” and a form of torture.
Gay sex is a criminal offense in Kenya and can result in a prison sentence of up to 14 years.
