It Shouldn’t Have to be Like This

We are forced by today’s circumstances to wear masks and socially distance, but it is within us as a nation to overcome the Covid-19 pestilence. It shouldn’t have to be like this. It doesn’t have to be like this. This is a fight we can win.

My publisher, who is also my pastor, is fond of saying he lives his life according to the principle of “What if?” That question is the essence of planning, for governmental entities and individuals alike. “What if” prods the questioner to examine the possible consequences of every decision and to analyze both its benefits and detriments before threy act. It’s the question a good chess player asks before committing to his/her next move.

There are many who say the pandemic is a “hoax,” and that the injunction to wear a mask and keep distance is all a part of some elaborate plot to do “something.” My pastor would ask the question, “What if it’s not?”

Don’t be hoodwinked by people whose only argument for refusing to take the doctor-suggested precautions is a conspiracy theory. Protect yourself and your loved ones. People are dying. The threat is real. This really is a fight we can win.
