Chatter Buzz Media Marks International Women’s Day with Orange County Government MWBE Certification

Chatter Buzz Media LogoORLANDO, Fla., March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Chatter Buzz Media, an integrated marketing and communications company, became a certified member of Orange County’s Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise Program. Chatter Buzz Media is 100 percent owned by two minority women, Ashley Cisneros-Mejia and Shalyn Dever, easily fulfilling the requirement that an MWBE firm is at least 51 percent owned by someone from a minority group. The certification was awarded on March 9, the day after International Women’s Day.

“The fact that this news came the day after International Women’s Day is significant,” said Ashley Cisneros-Mejia. “It’s important that programs like MWBE are established locally, nationally and internationally. Currently, only 4.4 percent of the total dollar value of all small-business loans goes to women in the United States. Programs that encourage investments and contracts in women-owned businesses will not only benefit the owners but the community as well. It’s projected that in the U.S., more than half of the 9.72 million new jobs to be established in the Small and Medium Enterprise sector by 2018 will be created by women-owned SMEs.”

“On the global level, women-owned businesses are experiencing similar obstacles in loans and the ability to enter contracts,” said Shalyn Dever. “A report from the Gender Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index found that nearly three quarters of the 30 countries surveyed had unfavorable conditions for female entrepreneurship.  Corporations and government are beginning to take action to build programs for women entrepreneurs.  Programs include Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, a global initiative aimed at women entrepreneurs, and local WMBE initiatives in Orange County, Fla. and the City of Orlando.”

Chatter Buzz Media is MWBE certified in Orange County, Fla. and the City of Orlando. Co-founders Ashley Cisneros-Mejia and Shalyn Dever support women initiatives in the community through Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build project, a program for women who plan and build homes for families, Orlando Business Journal’s Mentoring Monday, an event that brings together businesswomen for a day of mentoring sessions, and participating in the SuperMom 5k Run/Walk in April, an event celebrating motherhood and a healthy lifestyle.
